The Canardlys a decade on - 25 July 2003
Before covering the major social event of the Canardly calendar we had better
give an update on how the Canardly's are doing on the field.
The first round finished with 3 straight losses to the team resulting in the team
staying in Division 5 for the championship round.
It was at this stage we lost our coach, Norm, to Dunedin (replacing Laurie) and Lance
(previous coach out of retirement, now sidelined due to yet another injury) offered
to pick up the slack there. Thanks Lance.
The championship round has been a mixed bag of results with a lot of stop start rugby.
We have had a team default to us, games not played due to the big boys in town and bad
weather resulting in field closures. Lack of continual games has also made the boys
unfit, injury prone and losing interest.
Of the actual 5 games played we have won two. Add the default win in and we are
still in with a slim chance of making the semis. This week's game will be the decider.

As previously mentioned it is the Canardlys 10th season. A celebration weekend was held 11th-13th July.
The current team played on the Friday night and won. Following on from that was a few liquid refreshments
and get together of past & present players. Add in the opposition (HSOB Keiths) and there supporters,
this turned into a bloody good night, from what I remember!
Saturday started with a late luncheon (several missing - sore heads) and then off to watch the seniors play Shirley.
Saturday night a formal dinner was held with a chance for every one to put on the glad rags.
Sunday a family BBQ luncheon was held at the club with Past vs Present players game of Touch.
Needless to say the Past players were in fine form and convincingly won.
At this we would like to thank Bryan Mustchin for arranging the Friday night game and letting us
play although field conditions were not the best. Also thanks to Irene Soper and her crew for
looking after us on the Friday night. A thanks also to the guys in the team that helped organise the weekend.
