The Canardlys a decade on - May 2003
The 2003 season is a milestone for the Canardlys.
This is the 10th season the Canardlys have been part of the Christchurch Football Club.
Naturally being the social team we are the 10th season cannot go unnoticed.
2003 season is under way. As with most seasons we have lost the odd player,
coach or GDB to retirement or other commitments. We welcome all our new players
to the team and hope they enjoy their time with us both on and off the field.
If the TAB were paying odds on winning the Div 5 championship this year a sly $10
on the Canardlys would not be a silly bet. This being our 10th year is reason enough
to win but we have tactfully been short of players and full of injuries early in the
season. The structure of the championship means we do not have to win (not that we have
been throwing) any games until the business end of the season.

With this in mind we should,
at the end of the season, have a fully fit team that can throw enough phases of play together
and being to score at the end - time will tell.
At the time of writing 2 pre-season and 4 competition games have been
played with a mixture of results. The extensive summer training the
lads had gone through was to no avail in our first pre season game against
Sydenham. The keg took ages to finish!
The second game was our annual match against HSOB Keiths which usually indicates
the how well the Canardlys go in the season. Unfortunately we were not victorious
on this occasion and lost by 2 points. We are not one to throw blame but the referring
was ghastly. We should have known something was not right when the referee showed
up wearing Keith apparel and lined to have his photo taken with the team prior to
kick-off. Revenge was ours though as we absolutely thrashed them 2 weeks later in
the competition round 48-7.
