The Canardlys a decade on - April 2003
Hard to believe that a new season is upon us!
A quick reflection on last season saw the Canardlys make the semi-finals, losing to HSOB.
A successful year for the lads. Scored 348 points, by 23 different players and had 223
points are scored aginst us. Played 17 games and won 10 of them.
Highlight would have to be trouncing Merlins 35-5 at their home park!
Awards were as follows:
Forward of the Year: Plank
Back of the Year: Tups
Canardly of the Year: Scabs
Rookie of the Year: Flipper
Congratulations to you all. The season was finished with a team dinner at
Volares and then a trip to Wellington for the Kiwi/Aussie league test.

As well as being involved with the running of the touch at Chch Park,
Canardlys managed to enter a Touch team in the Wednesday night Men's League.
Their first year saw them miss the top 8 cut off by 1 point! (thanks to Smellie's team).
It was also great to see a lot of the guys in various other teams doing extremely well also.
Something a bit different during the off-season, was the Christmas BBQ. Great to see
a lot of the non-playing Canardlys make it. Kids (young and old) enjoyed themselves
and were lucky to get a visit from Santa.
Practice is on Wednesday nights starting at 6pm. First night is March 5.
Two games are set for Sun 16 against Sydenham and Sat 29 against the Keiths.
Both of these will be at Chch Park.
From all accounts there have been no retirements, so the team is looking strong
again this year. I understand a few touch injuries may make late starting for some
players, however a few boys are due back from injury.
