The Canardlys: 2003 Season Review
The 2003 season was a milestone for the Canardlys. The tenth season of playing
rugby for the Christchurch Football Club promised to be a good one, both
on and off the field.
With the season underway, we had lost a few players to retirement or other
commitments. Several new players joined the team to keep numbers up. With
any social side, you need more players than the average team and progress through
the season proved this theory.
The first round of competition were grading games for Division 4 & 5. A mixed
bag of results saw the Canardlys stay in Div 5 for the second round.
The Canardlys were not successful in making the championship round due to players
having other commitments and several injuries. Overall, a disappointing season
in the field with the Canardlys finishing 7th or 8th overall.

As mentioned, it was the Canardlys tenth season and we took the opportunity to celebrate
this occasion. All past and present players that we could get hold of, were invited to
a celebration weekend. With over 50 players, plus partners, it deemed to be a good weekend.
The current team started their weekend off by playing their normal game on the Friday night
followed by a get together of past and present players. Saturday started with
a luncheon (a few missing, with sore heads), then off to watch the Seniors play.
Saturday night, a formal dinner was held. A BBQ luncehon on Sunday concluded the weekend.
Also on Sunday, a Past v Present game of Touch was played with the Past being the victors.
As mentioned, our playing results were not as good as we had expected.

Awards are here.
With most players indicating they will be back this season, 2004 looks to be
as promising as 2003.
