Canardlys

History

Coaching has always been an important part of rugby. A full-on 40 minutes of touch, 5 minutes actual practice and then the bar for a drink, needs a coach with vision and stamina.
Ray was the first. 1991- 1997. Ray stepped down due to family commitments, but manages to sneak out every now and then with the boots.
Lane O took over for 3 years 1998-2000. The Canardlys had their best success under Lane O in 1998 but, like another John higher up, retired due to a poor season. Lane O also shows on Saturday's with the boots in hand.
Lancer got drunk one night in the off-season and is now this years coach.

Managers have been just as few. Managers are more important than the coach in a social rugby team.
In charge of team gear, drinks, BBQs, drinks, sponsorship, drinks, club meetings, drinks, trips, drinks, apparel and of course drinks.
Grunta was the first, followed by Dazzler for a few years with Fox picking up the role after retiring from the game.
Finally what is a social team without the social aspects of the team? The Canardlys always enjoy a good end of year trip. National venues have included Dunedin, Nelson, Akaroa and Queenstown. International venues have been the likes of Bali and Surfers Paradise.
